About Counselling and Psychotherapy

* I always say it's WINNERS who come to therapy. Taking time to clean up the past and focus on the present is a great way to prove to yourself that you can improve your quality of life.

* It's not necessary, before you start, to know exactly what you're looking for. An exploratory session or two will help here.

* One comment clients have made many times over the years is they didn't realise therapy can be ENJOYABLE. That's the great thing about emotional pain - once you start to focus on it, it stops being a negative and you start to feel MUCH BETTER.

* You may want only a few sessions of therapy/counselling. We can contract for a specific number. This is often CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) work. There is also the opportunity for this to be the basis of more in-depth working

* Therapy isn't really 'crisis management'. In fact, having a 'big drama' every week can be a way of not really looking at what's underneath it all. I always say to clients who start the session by saying that they don't have anything to say this week ... Great! Because this gives us the time and space for the things you never get a chance to say to emerge. These sorts of sessions are always particularly rewarding

* It's fascinating to see how, in the last few years, therapy and counselling ahve become incorporated into people's everyday life. A client told me recently that at a dinner party everyone spontaneously began talking about their therapists!
